For my birthday this year we went to Venice, which was 3 hours by train from Bergamo (you can fly direct to Bergamo Orio al Serio with Ryanair for a decent price, then catching 2 trains with Trenitalia from Bergamo to Venezia Santa Lucia). It is advised if you go to Venice to stay on the main island in order to see everything. We went just for two days, but I think this was enough time to see the whole of Venice. It is a beautiful place and I would advise anyone to go there, although I believe it is better in the summer. You must visit the famous San Marco square and also go up the tower for the best view. You can also catch a bus boat to the island of Murano and watch the glass blowing. I really liked Murano as it still had the nice feel of Venice, but wasn't as busy as the main island. We stayed at the brand new hotel 'Carnival Palace' which was an ultra modern hotel, and were even lucky enough to be upgraded to a room with a hot tub on the balcony! All in all, I loved Venice and would say it's worth a visit! :)
